Mexican Blood Leg Tarantula

The Mexican Blood Leg Tarantula is a beautiful and underrated New World species admired for its calm temperament, earthy coloration, and striking reddish leg accents. Native to Mexico, Aphonopelma bicoloratum is a hardy terrestrial species that makes an excellent choice for both newer keepers and experienced hobbyists looking for a slow-growing, long-lived display tarantula.

This species is best known for the rich red to orange coloration found on portions of the legs, which contrasts beautifully against its darker body tones. While generally calm and reclusive, individuals often remain visible once established and display classic terrestrial tarantula behaviors such as light burrowing, occasional webbing, and strong feeding responses.

Like many members of the Aphonopelma genus, the Mexican Blood Leg is relatively slow growing but highly rewarding over time, developing into a robust and impressive adult with beautiful subtle coloration and a relaxed demeanor.
