Centruroides gracilis (Florida Bark Scorpion)

The Florida Bark Scorpion is a sleek and agile species known for its slender body, elongated pincers, and glossy dark brown to nearly black coloration. Its streamlined appearance and quick movements give it a very alert, almost “nervous” look, making it an active and fascinating species to observe.

Dwelling Type: Arboreal (Climbing / Bark-Dwelling)
This species is primarily arboreal and thrives in vertical environments. Centruroides gracilis will climb cork bark, enclosure walls, and other structures, often hiding in tight crevices or behind vertical hides during the day.

Temperament:
Fast and defensive. This species is extremely quick and relies on both speed and its venomous sting for defense. It is not aggressive without reason but will readily sting if it feels threatened. Not suitable for handling.

Growth Rate: Moderate
Growth is fairly steady, with individuals reaching maturity in a reasonable timeframe under proper care.

Feeding Response:
Strong. It is an active hunter and will readily take live prey, often reacting quickly to movement.

Care Notes:
Provide a vertically oriented enclosure with plenty of climbing surfaces such as cork bark and textured backgrounds. Moderate humidity with good ventilation is ideal. Ensure the enclosure is secure, as this species is an excellent climber and escape artist.

Overall:
With its arboreal behavior, fast movements, and sleek appearance, the Florida Bark Scorpion is an exciting species for keepers who enjoy active, climbing invertebrates and are comfortable working with venomous animals.
