Kochiana brunnipes (Dwarf Pink Leg Tarantula)
Kochiana brunnipes
Dwarf Pink Leg Tarantula
The Dwarf Pink Leg Tarantula is a small but incredibly eye-catching New World species known for its dark body coloration contrasted by subtle pinkish tones along the legs. Native to Brazil, Kochiana brunnipes has become increasingly popular among hobbyists due to its manageable size, active feeding response, and fascinating webbing behavior.
Despite its dwarf stature, this species displays plenty of personality. Slings and juveniles are often active webbers, creating dense sheets of silk throughout their enclosure while utilizing hides and shallow burrows. Their compact size makes them an excellent choice for keepers looking to maintain multiple species without requiring large enclosures.
While generally less defensive than many Old World species, Kochiana brunnipes can still be quick and skittish when disturbed. Once established, however, they are hardy, rewarding to raise, and highly enjoyable to observe during feeding and enclosure maintenance.
